Film & Broadcast Acoustics
Music & Theater Acoustics

Architectural acoustical consulting normally includes room acoustics, sound isolation and noise and vibration reduction.

Room acoustics: designing building interiors for aesthetic and pleasurable listening and exacting sound production and recording.

Sound isolation: reducing noise transmission and enhancing privacy between interior spaces and through building facades and roofs.

Noise and vibration reduction: creating quiet environments using engineered systems to reduce noise intrusion and vibration disturbance from building equipment, including ventilation, transformers, plumbing, etc. also see
Acoustical Engineering.

The museum includes four stories of aquarium/museum space designed to incorporate sections of the Old Hovden Cannery buildings with exhibit areas, a 300-seat auditorium, restaurant, classrooms, offices and research facilities. CSA was responsible for mechanical equipment noise and vibration reduction and for the acoustical design of the exhibit and circulation areas to control comfortable noise and reverberation levels.

LIBRARIES

Westlake Library,
Daly City, California

CSA provided architectural acoustics and ventilation system noise and vibration recommendations for this library renovation project completed in 1998.

CSA provided acoustical consulting services for this multi-faceted entertainment facility located in the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco. The facility includes 15 cinemas, an IMAX theater, restaurants, retail stores, interactive children's play areas and a venue for live performances. Sound isolation and mechanical equipment noise and vibration control were particularly important design issues.

HOUSING

PLACES OF WORSHIP

Beth Israel Memorial
Chapel, Houston, Texas
Photo: Timothy Hursley
Architect: Daniel Solomon & Gary Strang

The scope of services for this award-winning open ventilation chapel and memorial garden involved room acoustics recommendations and sound system design. An acoustical baffling scheme created a sculptural entry at the facility’s south wall and attenuated sound from an adjacent roadway. The project incorporates a ceiling composed of sound-absorptive spaced wood slats to reduce excessive reverberation.
