Charles M. Salter Associates is pleased to announce the promotion of Philip N. Sanders, LEED AP to Senior Vice President. In 2000, Philip opened our South Bay office in San Jose, California. As a direct point of contact, Philip is able to provide his expertise to many of Salter’s South Bay clients. He currently serves on the leadership team at Salter and brings energy to strategic planning that matches his enthusiasm for project management and acoustical consulting.

Architectural acoustics, as a career, combines Philip's interests in language, architecture, and music. Philip studied linguistics at Stanford University, and his knowledge of speech as an acoustic signal gives him a unique perspective for encouraging the full integration of acoustics into building design. He advises architects and building owners to consider acoustical design from the earliest planning stages. Philip was pleased to contribute to ACOUSTICS: Architecture, Engineering, the Environment on the subject of the costs and benefits of comprehensive planning and design.

Philip actively participates in community theater, playing flute, piccolo, and occasional conga drums in the pit orchestra while his teenage son performs on stage. In addition to being a lot of fun, this activity gives him first-hand understanding of how his professional work in acoustics affects performers and audiences. Some of his arts and media projects include high school and community college performing arts facilities throughout the Bay area and the California Fox Theater, where a post-construction acoustical evaluation convinced the Symphony Silicon Valley to make it their home venue. As a LEED accredited professional, he is pleased to have been involved in a large percentage of the City of San Jose's new branch libraries, which illustrate the City’s commitment to green building.
